Jury-Duty Spay & Neuter was founded in 2004, after the founder, Cynthia Farrar, lost her beloved cat Jury. After her loss she searched for some way she could honor his memory and help other animals in our county. What she found was that at the time, tens of thousands of animals were being euthanized each year, with many of them being healthy, adoptable animals that just needed a home. She decided to stop this needless killing, and found that a spay and neuter program is the only humane solution to stopping the pet overpopulation problem. Jury-Duty Spay & Neuter's, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, mission is to bring an end to the euthanasia of healthy and adoptable cats and dogs at our local shelters simply because there is a pet overpopulation problem. From our beginning in 2004, we have assumed a leadership role in advocating low-cost spaying and altering as the most effective means of preventing the births of dogs and cats, and their subsequent abandonment, suffering and mass killing. Over the past eight years, we have operated the only breeding control program in the County and have facilitated more than 4,000 spay/neuter procedures.
We brought the "No Kill Movement" to Pensacola and implemented a plan that is showing results. The business background of our founder and board of directors has enabled our organization to conduct the counties first assessment and develop a plan to lower the intake and euthanization rates at our local shelters.
We are now seeing the results of this plan in which we approached the problem through a three prong spay and neuter approach comprised of:
This approach is saving lives and saving taxpayers money. We are proud to serve the people and pets of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties with a variety of programs including funding spay and neuter services, rabies shots for those in our program, a pet food bank, and humane education for the community including children of all ages.
Jury-Duty Spay & Neuter, is located in Pensacola, Florida established in 2004, our mission is to make spay and neuter surgeries accessible for the lowest income pet owners, and care givers of free roaming cats in Escambia and Santa Rosa County. The ultimate goal being the end of euthanization of healthy, adoptable animals in our counties.
We can no longer allow the shelter to merely perform the publics dirty work of euthanizing healthy, adoptable, unwanted pets simply because there are not enough homes. We assert that a No Kill Community is within our reach.
The simple truth is that animals benefit greatly from what we do. But people benefit greatly as well. We support and encourage the human/animal bond. We believe that Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties are compassionate communities that also embrace this bond. With an aggressive spay & neuter program we can make it feasible for even more people to open their homes to orphaned dogs and cats.
We are committed to reaching those who need our assistance and continuing to be “A Voice for Those that Can’t Speak”, and we couldn’t do it without the generous support of the community.
Join our efforts today, through volunteering or sponsoring a surgery for an animal in need, in our community. Prevention of births is the only way to stop the deadly cycle of pet overpopulation and the only humane solution.
