Help Us Fill the Empty Bowls

Our Pet Food Drive

We ask for donations of non-perishable, dry cat food. Your tax deductible donations will help keep homeless cats properly fed. In today's unsteady economy, more cats are finding themselves hungry and homeless as their families face difficult financial times. You can help us make a difference in the lives of these community cats.

Pensacola and Milton has hundreds of free romaing cats living on its streets. These cats are there because they have no place else to go. Many people view them as a nuisance and free roaming cat advocates are constantly struggling to stop them from being poisoned, starved or rounded up and taken to shelters where they are quickly euthanized. Jury-Duty Spay & Neuter is a strong proponent of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), as it is the only humane way to help manage the free roaming cat population and reduce the numbers of homeless animals in our city. Many Jury-Duty Spay and Neuter volunteers are actively involved in trapping feral cats so they can be spayed/neutered and released back to their colonies.

A significant number of rescues come from these trapping projects, as it common to find young kittens who can be tamed and adopted as well as friendly cats that have been cast out onto the streets and have joined with an existing feral colony. Occasionally, even older strays end up turning into very friendly, adoptable cats with a little time and TLC. In addition to TNR, many of our volunteers will provide food for feral colonies. Feeding these cats not only eases their plight, but it allows the volunteer to maintain the health and size of the colony by promptly trapping and fixing any newcomers, rescuing any kittens that might appear, and helping any sick or injured feral that needs medical attention.

The cost of food alone can end up being a considerable expense for caretakers of multiple colonies! Free roaming cat caretakers do what they do out of the kindness of their hearts, and often in the face of considerable hostility by a few people who view these cats as a nuisance that they wish to be rid of. With costs rising and regular sources of donated food all but dried up due to the poor economy, we are asking for your help in providing food for these hungry animals.

Please stop by our office and show your support for stray and free roaming cats and the people that care for them! Any brand of cat food will be greatly appreciated.
