We have asked our county commissioners to support our resolution/proclamation declaring the month of February “SPAY MONTH” or the date of February 26th SPAY DAY in our county. The resolution is as follows:
WHEREAS, cats and dogs provide companionship to and share the homes of over 71,000.000 individuals in the Unites States; and
WHEREAS, our shelters have to euthanize approximately four million cats and dogs each year, although many of them are healthy and adoptable, due to a lack of critical resources such as money, space, and good adoptive homes, and
WHEREAS, the problem of pet overpopulation costs the taxpayers of this country millions of dollars annually through animal control programs aimed at coping with the millions of homeless cats and dogs; and
WHEREAS, veterinarians, humane societies, national and local animal protection organizations, and private citizens have joined together again to advocate the spaying and neutering of companion animals on SPAY DAY 2008;
Now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Escambia County Government Body, that the month of February be designated “SPAY MONTH” or February 26, 2008, be designated “SPAY DAY”. The Mayor and County Commissioners are authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of Escambia County to observe the day by having their own cats or dogs spayed or neutered or by sponsoring the spaying or neutering of another person’s cat or dog.
